Feeling blue and unwell too?

For the past few days I have felt rather under the weather, which has played havoc with my mental health (MH) and sense of self worth. Or has it?

We all have those memories of feeling sick, unwell or being bed bound by pesky germs, and it’s hard to remain positive and enlightened at these times, right? So what can we do about it?

“It becomes apparent that maybe our mental health isn’t part of this at all”

First of all, I think it’s important to realise that being unwell comes with its own struggles, the prominent ones being a sniffly nose, aching bones, and a headache etc, but also generally feeling lathargic and down in the dumps. Once we’ve realised this, it becomes apparent that maybe our MH isn’t part of this at all, and that maybe it’s just down to feeling a bit grotty.

We can take a few things from this; here are some I tell myself…

Bearies and I
  • Don’t be angry that you’ve ‘taken a step back’ on your MH journey if you’re feeling sick, it may not be related at all
  • Dont blame yourself for having negative thoughts at this time, its unlikely to always avoid becoming unwell and therefore sad too. I can speak for everyone when I say that no one feels amazing when sick!
  • Lastly, be kind to yourself. Instead of focusing on why you feel so blue, focus on doing nice things to make you feel better. My go tos are hot bubble baths, my huge bear, a snuggly pink blanket and a fluffy pink hot water bottle!

In conclusion, illness effects our MH without it being the core problem, it’s important to recognise that they’re separate things and to focus our efforts on becoming healthy again so we can continue on building ourselves and remaining in tune with our positivity. We can’t do it all at once, otherwise we’ll be sick forever! Sniff sniff 😦

Keep it fluffy, warm and snuggly!

With Love, Luj x
